Gift giving outside the box

We all hate getting neckties and socks as gifts. There is really no better way to say ‘I don’t know you well’ than to give someone a gift certificate. So how do you show you really get someone? Is your friend a pet lover? Pet urns are a great way to commemorate a passing pet. It might seem awkward to give a gift that basically shouts: your pet just died! But from experience I know that friends really appreciate it when someone remembers their fallen four legged friend. Also, it might be worth thinking about giving this gift to someone who is constantly telling you about their pet’s surgeries and treatments. This is a sign their pet might be on its last leg, pun intended. Pet urns can be found here.

Basically this emphasizes the most fundamental facet of gift giving. Give a gift that shows that you really know your friend. If the gift is generic or has wide appeal you should find another gift. You want to buy something that says: I know you and I know you will love this.

When I go shopping, I have one question that circulates my brain. What do I want? Unfortunately, the answer to that question is of little help when searching for a gift for a friend or loved one. One of the most common mistakes of gift giving is to give a gift that you yourself would like to be given. Sometimes we get wrapped up in how much we would like to
have something that we forget that the recipient might be less than thrilled with the same thing.

The final factor to remember when considering which gift to give is what I call the ‘Gift Fad Principle’ (GFP). Overly faddish gifts are corny and basically useless. Practicality is something virtually everyone likes.
